PERFORMING

As a teenager, I attended two summer festivals focussed on string quartets. The interaction of individual voices and the artistic agency that came with playing in quartets sparked a passion for chamber music that has continued throughout my life.

Through college and into my first few years in San Diego I was a member of serious quartets. My group, the Hyperion Quartet, won a top prize at the Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition, performed on NPR, and collaborated at festivals with members of the illustrious Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center and the Miró Quartet.

Since coming to San Diego, I’ve had the opportunity to perform with principal players of the Cleveland Orchestra, LA Phil, San Diego Symphony, Cincinnati Symphony, Pittsburgh Symphony and more.

Locally, I perform regularly with Camarada and Art of Elan, and as a regular substitute musician with the San Diego Symphony.

In the summer of 2021, I was the first “Gold Medal” and “Community Prize” winner in Nathan Cole’s online program, the Violympics. I received this award after earning the highest point total in 6 performing events where competitors were required to learn and video a new contemporary piece after working on it for just a week. Each event was judged by a famous violinist, including Augustin Hadelich, James Ehnes and Gil Shaham. Of the 200-plus violinists and violists in the program, I was the only person to make it to the finals of all six events, and the only violist to win a “medal.”

As a soloist I won the Aspen Conducting Academy Concerto Competition, the La Jolla Young Artist Competition, and have performed as a recitalist across the USA, Mexico, France and Italy. I have recorded for Naxos, New World Records and multiple albums with the Danny Green Trio and the chamber-folk band The Tree Ring.

Film and television credits include several shows for Netflix, including “Chef’s Table,” and the feature films “Short Term 12” and “Just Mercy” among others.
